Our Heritage & Partnerships
Connecting German Breeding Excellence with North American Growers since 2000
The Beginnings
Hanse Seed Corp. was founded in 2000 with a clear mission: to bring the premium potato varieties of Saka Pflanzenzucht GmbH (Germany) to growers across the United States and Canada.
The timing was right. Plant Variety Protection legislation had just been established, and Golden Potatoes had already earned a place in North American households. Seeing the potential of this vast and underserved market, the directors of Solana AgrarProdukte (Hamburg) — commercial
representatives of Saka Pflanzenzucht GmbH — decided it was time to establish a dedicated presence on this side of the Atlantic. Hanse Seed Corp. was their answer.

Market Shift
When Plant Variety Protection laws first took hold, “Golden Potatoes” were becoming a fixture in North American households — and the opportunity was impossible to ignore. The directors of Solana AgrarProdukte (Hamburg), commercial representatives of Saka, recognized the need for a dedicated partner to bring European breeding innovation to this growing market. Hanse Seed Corp. was founded to fill that role.
Our Role Today
We serve as the strategic link between European breeding excellence and North American producers, ensuring every variety we offer is matched to local soils, climates, and market demands. As that demand has evolved, so have we — expanding our portfolio and deepening our relationships with growers across the continent.

Leadership in the Field
Under CEO John Dussing, Hanse Seed Corp. takes a hands-on approach at every stage — from field inspection to final selection. That direct involvement is how we guarantee that every lot of seed meets the rigorous standards North American producers depend on.
